Ladies,
I’m coming to you today with something which isn’t typical here. We’re going to play alchemists and create three amazing hair masks. After all everyone knows that we love the beauty products that me make on our own 🙂
Why do I make hair mask at home?
Because it’s fun! Collecting ingredients, defining proportions, combining and creating customized mixtures can be really pleasant, let alone the huge satisfaction that creating your own products gives. Indeed, I happen to be proud of myself when I manage to make a cosmetic that not only smells wonderful but also improves the appearance of hair remarkably. On the top of the list of advantages is the cost. Such homemade products are far cheaper than their store-bought alternatives and additionally you can prepare them fast using the ingredients that are close at hand (in the kitchen).
Do I treat my hair only with home masks?
Of course not. I like using ready-made hair masks (my favorite line is Nanoil Hair Mask) that are easy to use and are made our of well-selected ingredients. With their help I can strengthen, regenerate and improve the resilience of my strands. Sometimes, however, I feel like adding a homemade hair mask to my beauty routine. In my view, homemade masks work well when the hair is not heavily damaged and weakened, but only when it needs a nutrient supply (e.g. vitamins, minerals, EFAs). As a result the hair is revived and wins a more beautiful appearance.
The best DIY hair masks
Below I’m providing you with a list of three hair masks that I prepare and use most often. In order to make these simple formulas, you do not need fancy ingredients because you will actually find most of them in your cupboards and garden. I do like my homemade hair masks not only for their simplicity but also for being so efficacious!
1. Homemade protein hair mask
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon of argan oil
- 1 tablespoon of aloe vera
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 5 drops of sage oil
This is an all-in-one home hair mask: it’s a source of proteins, fatty acids and, of course, humectants. Mix all the ingredients (to make the blending easier, you can heat the ingredients up a bit) and then let it sit on damp hair for at least an hour or more. Rinse and shampoo the hair.
2. The simplest hair mask
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
There is absolutely no need to make any preparations in order to make this mask because – I strongly believe – you always have some eggs, a bottle of olive oil and a lemon in your kitchen supplies. This can be your emergency hair mask when you run out of your favorite commercial hair mask. You don’t have to do nothing more than combining the ingredients and letting the mixture sit on your hair 15-30 minutes before shampooing. Style the hair as always to reveal shiny, soft and bouncy strands.
3. Mask for hair loss
- 1 tablespoon of castor oil
- 1 tablespoon of argan oil or other oil
- 1 tablespoon of mineral oil
- 1 avocado
My hair mask recipe list wouldn’t be complete without a castor oil hair mask. Combine it with another lightweight oil, mineral oil and a mashed avocado fruit – in this way you will obtain a really amazing hair strengthening mask. Let it sit on the hair for at least half an hour, and then rinse thoroughly.
