Homemade hair masks. Which ingredients to choose?

Hi Ladies!

I’d like to tell you this and that about my favorite way to get stunning hair. Let me begin with saying that sometimes we don’t realize how many solutions are close at our hands. Just check your cupboards. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of substances and ingredients that may constitute a efficacious homemade hair mask. How to make one at home?

Do natural hair masks really work?

Of course, they do! Instead of synthetic substances natural hair masks contain only precious nutrients that have incredibly beneficial influence on the hair. Personally, I prefer the homemade hair mask to the ones available in a drugstore. Obviously, there are some drawbacks of diy hair masks, and one of them includes the short shelf-life. As you know, products without preservatives spoil pretty fast. Actually, when it comes to a hair mask, it’d be better if you prepared just one portion to use it up the same day. But coming back to the advantages, homemade hair masks can be applied to the scalp, not just to the hair (contrary to the store-bought products). In this way your homemade hair mask will deliver you better results.

Hair mask: Which one to choose?

Hair masks prepared at home differ from – let’s call it – professional ones. When you make one yourself, you’ll know what it contains and whether the ingredients used are fresh. Additionally, since you can juggle with the constituents, you can customize the product and treat the hair with what it really needs. Moreover, with every hair mask prepared, you can add or exclude some substances to check what works for your hair best. I think we can say that this gives you limitless possibilities!

What are other differences between home hair masks and the ones bought in a store? Well, as I’ve said this before, homemade hair masks are 100% natural. The ones available in a drugstore are often filled with silicones and alcohol. Therefore, if your hair is damaged and extremely dehydrated, I guess it would be better if you applied a customized and all-natural product, especially if you’re not an expert in decoding INCI. Your strands are safer with diy hair masks.

Which ingredients to use to create homemade hair masks?

  • Eggs are the much-desired constituent of a hair mask. Egg white adds volume to the hair and strengthens it. Yolk is responsible for moisturizing. Apart from that, eggs contain lecithin and sulfur that are also present in keratin.
  • Yeast is the source of selenium, potassium, calcium, copper, biotin, B-group vitamins and many, many more. It promotes hair growth and deals with shedding. Yeast repairs the hair from within.
  • Natural vegetable oils are the most precious source of fatty acids. I think hair oil treatment is now one of the most common methods to improve hair’s appearance, combats hair loss and measurably speeds up hair growth. I can’t imagine my life without putting vegetable oils to my hair. I’d suggest using coconut oil, castor oil, argan oil or even olive oil. The best thing is that you can blend a few oils to create your customized oil hair masks.
  • Avocado is a nutrient bomb offering you the substances like vitamins: A, C, K as well as phosphorus, zinc, iron, copper and potassium. It replenishes hair with water and makes the strands stronger. It combats hair loss and adds more body to the hair. If you want to give avocado oil a try, please make sure you have a cold-pressed one. Otherwise it may be deprived of all the nutrients you want to supply the hair with.
  • Aloe is a moisturizer that locks the water inside the hair. This is why hair is glossy and frizz-resistant. Actually, you can also make it an ally in the fight against dandruff. Aloe is a rich source of vitamins A, B, C and minerals such as magnesium, calcium, iron and zinc.
  • Honey is not only delicious but also healthy. It’s able to repair and strengthen the hair, even the extremely damaged strands. It’s proven to be a potent antioxidant which is why it counteracts scalp irritations and improves hair’s appearance.
  • Linseed is another substance full of vitamins like A, C, D, K, proteins, fiber, iron and calcium. These nutrients make the hair thicker, moisturized and lustrous. The brown seeds of flax hides plenty of nutrients that our hair needs to grow strong and healthy.
