Make-up mistakes committed by me (that I don’t do anymore)

Make-up flops are something that could probably discuss for hours. It would be an enormous lie if I’d ever tell you that I never made a mistake. On the contrary! I commit them day in and day out, unknowingly worsening my skin’s condition. It is time to make my peace with the mistakes of the past and to dive into a brief retrospection. What are the make-up sins I committed?

Make-up mistakes that I did

1. Too dark and rolling foundation.

The wrong color of your foundation is one of those most common mistakes when it comes to make-up. Plenty of women do this. It happens mostly because someone once said that you should test your foundation on your hand. I, myself, do that for years and it never occurred to me that my hand may have a different tone than my face. Only around the time, I had my rehearsal make-up for my wedding when the make-up artist told me that the foundation should be tested on your jawline! It should be close in color to the skin on your neck so that after you apply it to the face it wouldn’t look like a mask. The too dark foundation is a request make-up mistake that makes us look older than we actually are.

2. Too much powder with too bright shade.

On the other hand, we have another make-up mistake that involves the use of too bright powder. The safest method is to use translucent powder, e.g. mineral because it does not change the color of the skin. Though if you use too much of it, the effect will never be natural, no matter the product used. The conclusion is simple: it’s a mistake to use too much powder and especially when its color is brighter than your skin color.

3. Concealer around the eyes.

When it comes to mistakes surrounding the subject of camouflaging the imperfections and evening out the skin color, then I need to discuss the concealer around the eyes. It’s not like I always knew how to use it correctly. I made a mistake because I was putting it on under the eyes, in the corners, and sometimes even on the upper eyelid. As I look at the pictures of me from that time I have to say that the effect was not very good. Remember that the concealer under eyes should be applied only on the fragment of skin that looks like an upside-down triangle (the tip pointing down). If you do it any other way, you do it incorrectly – it won’t affect your skin condition but your appearance very much so.

4. Droppy eyeliner.

Quite a popular mistake in make-up is to create an uneven line or making it too low. To preserve the eyes’ proportions and make them optically bigger the line should be slightly raised and create a natural extension of the waterline. If you point your eyeliner too low the line will be imprecise or too thick and you’ll make yourself look like the saddest woman in the world. But, you want to look young and radiant, am I right?!

5. Use of black pencil around the eyes.

A similar awful effect can occur when you use the eye pencil for both upper and lower waterline. Lately, I came across my old photo from the teenage years where the waterline of my eyes was treated to some black pencil and the entire make-up is very subtle. It looked hilarious! Well, yeah, I made all the worst mistakes in make-up myself. Don’t ever do it. When it comes to the waterline, use only white or nude pencil and reserve the black one to the upper eyelashes line and it does not necessarily need to start in the corner of the eye.

6. Too harshly enhanced eyebrows.

Make-up mistakes multiply and often happen to involve the eyes area. One of the most popular sins is to very harshly enhance the eyebrows – too dark product, too harsh contour, too identical almost stencil perfect eyebrows that make you look angry and older. Only for a few months now I can say that I have gotten well at my eyebrows make-up and that the effect is natural. I use products such as wax or pomade, I use a very precise brush and obviously I choose the color according to my natural hair color.

7. Incorrect face contouring.

Nowadays I rarely contour but there was a time when I was purely obsessed with the trio known as a bronzer, highlighter, and blusher. It wouldn’t be an issue if only I knew how to use them, but bronzer on the cheekbones was like a standard for me (it should be right under), the same goes for blusher stains that made me look like a circus clown. The face contouring trend took us by surprise and I often see the girls on the street with the same problem as the one I had back in the day.
